Spencer and I decorated our first gingerbread house together! It was just one of those gingerbread house kits you can buy at the store that has everything packaged and ready to go. This provided a great lesson in letting go for a sometimes overly obsessive, everything must look beautiful mom. Here are some pics along with some lessons learned...

Lesson #1 - Gumdrops are for eating, not decorating! Duh Mom!
Lesson #2 - You can never have too much icing on a gingerbread house. Icing hides lots of things. Something doesn't look right? Put more icing on.
(Love this face!)
Lesson #3 - Don't leave scissors within close proximity of a 2 year old. He could potentially use them as a weapon to knock down the gingerbread house. Not to mention poke an eye out... :)

Lesson #4 - When you have to put your gingerbread house back together two, three, even four times because your 2 year old knocks it over, it is ok. Life goes on. Just add more icing.

Lesson #5 - No one is going to notice that there is no pattern to the color of gumdrops around your gingerbread house. Your 2 year old will get more enjoyment from the activity if you actually let him put some of the candy on without obsessing about where he puts it.
(The finished product)
Lesson #6 - Stop caring about asthetics. It is about the journey, not the destination.
